Filip Van Moerkercke and John Roan (first one manager of and second one half of Arsenal) have been doing business together for over 15 years. They both share yet another passion and will be translating this passion into a concept. They opened the first pop-up surf shop in Antwerp, Belgium. and it’s named H A V E N.
In resemblance with New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam and Tokyo, Antwerp is now offering a unique shop for the ‘urban surfer’, without being located at the seaside. The traditional image of a surf shop gets deconstructed.
HAVEN intends to be more than a shop in surf supplies and focuses more on the history and creativity that goes with the surf culture. Surf will naturally be the core of HAVEN, but also fashion, music, design, art, photography and outdoor life will get a fair amount of attention. Everyone with a heart for beautiful and unique items will find their way to HAVEN.
We went after the official opening back again for a little look in this cool new spot in Antwerp.
What we discovered is in addition to the traditional surf supplies, HAVEN offers a fine selection of fashion labels for men that haven’t been introduced to the Benelux market yet. Brands such as ‘Oh Dawn’ (Copenhagen) and ‘WAIT’ (Paris) are pumping a new vision into the surf industry, with a lot more affinity for fashion and ecology.
Collabs are going to be important for HAVEN and they kick off with a small collection designed by Mic Eaton, a jewellery line by Karolin Van Loon and an assortment of healthy food and drinks by Elisa Kookt. Apart from all that, HAVEN will provide a platform for artists and photographers to give us their artistic vision on the world of surfing. The first exposition is made by photographer/surfer Wouter Struyf.
HAVEN is set up to become a meeting point in Antwerp for those who want to learn about the culture and those who want to share it. And for the curious… Be sure to check it out!
The pop-up/ city-surf shop will stay open for a period of min. 6 months.
